Investing in the stock market is an amazing (and a personal favorite) way to build wealth.
It doesn’t matter how much money you have to begin with. Whether you have $100 to your name, or $1,000,000,000 (that’s a billion) dollars to your name, you can successfully invest in the stock market.
Or, if you pick the wrong investments, you can also just as easily lose it all.
When I first began investing, a wise aunt told me, “Invest the money you don’t need. And, before you begin investing, build an 6-month emergency fund.”
Pay heed to it. It’s one of the best pieces of advice you, me or anyone will ever receive in this world.
What I also learned is that picking the wrong stock is easier than picking the right stock. All you have to do is follow the crowd, and let others do the thinking for you. That’s a recipe for disaster. I unfortunately learned this the hard way. I hope you don’t have to.
To be successful with stock market investing, you need to do the following:
- Find high quality companies with strong future
- Buy them at a discount compared to their value
- Hold them until they stop being “a high-quality company with strong future”
When you buy anything other than a high quality company with bright future, you either lose money or don’t make much money.
When you also pay more for a stock than it’s real value, you won’t make much money.
To grow your portfolio significantly, you need to not only find the right companies at the right price, but more importantly find evidence to prove the “rightness”. This takes work. It takes analysis. It takes reading. It takes patience.
Often times, you will find your research prove your hypothesis wrong. In such cases, be willing to walk away from that company. Because, sometimes choosing to not invest in a company (with bad prospects) is a better investment choice.
Those afraid of work, or looking to make quick money won’t do very well with stock market investing. I hope that is not you.
Rather, I hope that you will keep an open mind, learn all that this site has to offer, apply it to your investment practice, and reap the rewards.
The future is bright, and it’s waiting for you to shine.
